Q. Doctor Grenardo, with colon cancer, what kinds of symptoms can we feel?
A. With colon cancer, that’s really the problem…a lot of times we don’t feel anything and we have no signs or symptoms that something (problematic) is going on.
Q. What are your thoughts on mail-in screenings?
A. Colonoscopies are the most reliable test for any colon issues. Using a scope, your doctor can see and actually remove any problem areas during the screening. But many people, for various reasons, opt to do the mail-in type of screening…Cologuard. It’s a good test. It’s not as good as a colonoscopy, but any screening is better than no screening at all.
Q. Since colon cancer can have no symptoms, when should we see a doctor?
A. If you have blood in your stool or consistent discomfort in your upper or lower abdomen, see your trusted health provider as soon as possible.

Q. What else can become a problem?
A. Lower GI issue symptoms can be consistent cramping or diarrhea- that’s when we think that maybe there could be inflammatory disease. Again, speak to your doctor, and discuss your diet and any possible screenings you may need.
