Deputies are asking for the public’s help in finding the person responsible for tearing American flags at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office headquarters.

GOLDEN, Colo. — Deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office are looking for a person responsible for damaging flags at the sheriff’s headquarters in Golden.

Around 6 p.m. on June 5, a person was caught on a security camera making an obscene gesture at the camera before tearing one of the American flags on Jefferson County Parkway.

The sheriff’s office reported seven flags were damaged in total. The flags are in place to honor fallen officers, according to the sheriff’s office.

The person in the video was wearing a black and red knit cap, a black shirt and jean shorts, carrying a backpack and they had tattoos on their arms.

After vandalizing the flags, the person was last seen walking toward the light rail station, the sheriff’s office posted on the social platform X.

Anyone who can help identify this person is asked to call the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 303-271-5612.
