Police said the suspect ignored repeated commands to drop a large knife.
LONGMONT, Colo. — Police officers shot a domestic violence suspect during a confrontation in Longmont Wednesday afternoon.
Longmont Public Safety said in a release that officers were sent to a domestic violence call in the 1300 block of Coffman Street at 1:37 p.m.
The release said officers contacted the suspect, who was armed with a large knife (pictured below), but he did not comply with officers’ commands to drop it.
Officers tried using foam projectiles multiple times, police said, but it didn’t work. The man then ran away toward an occupied home while still armed with the knife, police said.
The man continued to ignore officers’ commands, according to the release. Police said at least one of the officers fired their weapon to keep him from entering the home, hitting him with gunfire, but he still refused to comply. Other officers again used foam projectiles until he complied and dropped the knife, according to police.
The suspect was taken to the hospital and his condition is unknown, according to police. The victim was not seriously hurt. No Longmont officers were injured.
The 20th Judicial District Critical Incident Team is investigating the case.
