The sole occupant of a single-engine plane died after it crashed in Morgan County, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.

MORGAN COUNTY, Colo. — An investigation is underway after a single-engine plane crashed Thursday morning, killing the pilot, according to a release from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) first reported that it was investigating the crash of an Air Tractor AT-602 airplane in Colorado just after 11:30 a.m. Thursday. Later, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) told 9NEWS that the crash happened at around 10:15 a.m. and that the pilot was the only person on the plane.

Just before 3 p.m., the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office issued a release saying first responders found the pilot dead when they arrived to the scene of the crash.

Both the NTSB and the FAA said the crash happened in Brush, while the sheriff’s office said the crash happened in the area of Snyder and Hillrose, two small towns to the northeast of Brush.

The crash is being investigated by the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, the Morgan County Coroner’s Office, the FAA and the NTSB, according to the sheriff’s office release.

The sheriff’s office did not share additional details of the crash, as the investigation is still active. The pilot’s identity will be shared after family members are notified.

The FAA said they will post a preliminary incident report soon.
