Interstate 70 is closed in both directions Thursday morning near Morrison.

MORRISON, Colo. — Interstate 70 is closed Thursday near Morrison for a crash involving a fully engulfed tanker and up to six vehicles.

A spokesperson for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said there were injuries, but could not immediately say how many people were injured.

Multiple vehicles involved in the crash caught fire.

I-70 is closed in both directions between Exit 254 – US 40 and Genesee and Exit 260 – C-470, on the west side of the Denver metro area.

The sheriff’s office said to avoid the area for several hours and that this crash will likely affect the afternoon drive. Both directions of I-70 will be closed for firefighting efforts.
