The fire occurred at a home in the 9100 block of Clarkson Street, the Thornton Fire Department said.
THORNTON, Colo. — A child was killed in a house fire Friday afternoon in Thornton.
Thornton Fire said they were called to the home in the 9100 block of Clarkson Street at around noon. Thornton Police officers arrived on scene first and were told there was a child inside the home, the fire department said.
Officers rushed inside the burning home, but were unable to locate the child, fire officials said.
Thornton Fire crews arrived and picked up the search efforts to find the child, officials said. After putting out the fire, crews found the child but it was too late, according to a post from Thornton Fire.
Three Thornton police officers were taken to a hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation, fire officials said. No firefighters were injured in the blaze.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, officials said.
The child’s name will be released at a later date by the Adams County Coroner’s Office.
Fire crews from Westminster, Federal Heights, North Metro Fire Rescue and Adams County Fire assisted Thornton in extinguishing the fire.
