NEW footage has shown that Ederson “should not have been allowed to continue” during Manchester City’s crucial win over Tottenham.

The champions travelled to North London knowing that only a victory would do in their pursuit of a fourth consecutive title.

With his side leading 1-0 via Erling Haaland‘s 51st minute opener, City keeper Ederson was involved in a brutal collision with Romero.

The Argentine defender, 26, had been trying to get on the end of Dejan Kulusevski‘s cross when he barrelled into Ederson.

City stars frantically waved for medical staff to rush on, prompting plenty of concern.

After receiving treatment and sitting up, Ederson was eventually cleared to continue.

Fresh footage taken from behind the goal, however, has shown the 30-year-old lying prone on the ground immediately after the 62nd minute collision.

The new clip has left fans stunned that he was allowed to carry on, with one writing on social media: “Football is so behind in dealing with concussions. They must up their game. No way Ederson should have been allowed to stay on the pitch.”

A second echoed: “He was looking so shaky right after the incident too. He was shaking his head to try to wake himself up and looked a little lost. Not to mention he slipped while kicking the ball back in play. Kinda scandalous he was allowed to continue.”

When play resumed, Ederson slipped while taking a free-kick, and did not appear comfortable.

Eventually he was replaced in the 69th minute by deputy Stefan Ortega.

The German, 31, produced a heroic cameo, saving three one-on-ones and even earning Sky Sports’ player of the match award.

After the game, City boss Pep Guardiola denied that his goalkeeper had suffered a concussion.

The Spaniard, 53, said: “He had a problem with his eye, he could not see properly so the doctor said I should change.”

City’s goalkeeper coach was booked in the aftermath of the initial incident for his complaints, as was Romero.

If Ederson is deemed to have suffered a concussion, he will not be able to play in Sunday’s final day clash with West Ham.

Rules state that players who have suffered a concussion must sit out for seven to 12 days, depending on the severity of the injury.

Ederson was visibly furious to be taken off by Guardiola.

When he clapped the City fans following his side’s 2-0 win, he could be seen sporting a nasty black eye.
