BAYERN MUNICH have been warned against appointing Roberto De Zerbi as their new manager.

And the German giants could instead make a move for former Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick.

Bayern Munich are on the search for a new gaffer as Thomas Tuchel is stepping down in the summer.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso was their No1 target – but he has announced he wants to stay at the undefeated Bundesliga leaders.

The club have now drawn up a list of alternatives, featuring De Zerbi, Rangnick and their former boss Julian Nagelsmann.

But Bayern have been warned against offering the job to the Brighton manager by German football expert Constantin Eckner because he is a “hothead”.

He told talkSPORT: “He’s among three candidates and has emerged as someone who might become the next Bayern manager, who knows?

“Bayern has already put his feelers out to find out if De Zerbi would be available and to find out about the buyout clause in De Zerbi’s contract and to see if it can be triggered.”

Asked if De Zerbi would be a good fit for Bayern, Eckner said: “No it wouldn’t be. Not because of his tactical acumen but because of his man-management – because he is a bit of a hothead.

“He can instigate people, he can provoke people and get on bad terms with people a couple of times in recent times.

“Think about De Zerbi and then all of the trouble that has been going on at Bayern internally – I don’t know if that would be the best fit.

“I could see him throwing his hands up after three months and thinking ‘I’m done here.’”

How Harry Kane got even better at Bayern

De Zerbi recently refused to commit his future to Brighton, saying: “I have a different way to decide my future.

“I want to speak with my club, I have a contract but the problem is not the contract – the problem is to find the same plan, the same target, the same vision for the future.

For me, I have not decided yet what is my future, because I have the contract, but anyway I want to speak with Tony [Bloom], my club, to understand their plan, to understand his plan, the Tony plan.

“The future I want to keep my ambition, my motivation, I live for football 24 hours a day.

“I want to know what is the plan, what is the project, what is the future because if I don’t feel comfortable, I don’t feel the right motivation, I can’t stay any longer.”

Meanwhile, Rangnick is ready to lead Austria into Euro 2024.

But an offer from Bayern could reportedly convince him to leave after the tournament is done.

Rangnick’s spell at Man Utd

Ralf Rangnick has a long history as a Bundesliga boss after taking charge of Stuttgart, Hannover, Schalke and Hoffenheim.

He initially agreed to join Man Utd in a consultancy role after impressing in a similar position while overseeing Red Bull clubs and managing RB Leipzig.

But he was forced to arrive early at Old Trafford to step in as interim boss for 29 games in the 2021/22 season due to the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Mixed results followed with United finishing the season in sixth with 58 points, their worst total in Premier League history.

He was replaced by Erik ten Hag in the summer and Rangnick never worked in his initial consultancy role.

Following Cristiano Ronaldo’s bombshell exit from the club, he claimed he had “never heard” of Rangnick and he was “not even a coach”.
