Evacuations ordered | Large structure fire in Byers, Colorado

The building on fire has large trucks and fuel tanks inside that have exploded. Deputies are evacuating homes in the area.

BYERS, Colo. — The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office said on Friday morning it had issued a Code Red emergency alert and is evacuating up to 30 homes in Byers due to a large structure fire.

The fire was in the 600 block of East Pleasant Avenue in the town along Interstate 70 east of the Denver metro area, the sheriff’s office said.

The building on fire appeared to be a barn or shop. Flammables inside include large trucks and fuel tanks that have exploded, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies were evacuating about 25 to 30 homes in the area. Multiple fire agencies were responding.
