An AdventHealth spokesperson said the remains were found during a recent “employee transition.”
LITTLETON, Colo — A Denver metro area hospital recently discovered 31 cremains from miscarriages that had been stored for a “longer than expected timeline.”
The cremains were found at AdventHealth Littleton, at 7700 S. Broadway, during an “employee transition,” a hospital spokesperson said on Wednesday. A statement from the hospital said it will offer a prayer service and lay the cremains to rest at a cemetery.
It was unclear how long the cremains had been there. The spokesperson said it was longer than six months, which she said is the minimum amount of time that mortuary services are required by law to keep cremains.
“We understand how pregnancy loss can have a devastating impact on families, so our priority is to provide compassionate care and gentle support during such a traumatic time,” AdventHealth said in a statement.
The hospital said it offers support to parents on how they want to handle remains. At parents’ requests, in some cases, the hospital has “securely and respectfully retained cremains for a period, should grieving parents wish to collect them at a later time,” the statement says.
