A native of West Des Moines, Iowa, Caitlin Clark is widely seen as the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming WNBA Draft.

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Iowa’s Caitlin Clark has made her decision: The star point guard will head to the WNBA following this season with the Hawkeyes.

“While this season is far from over and we have a lot more goals to achieve, it will be my last one at Iowa,” she announced on social media Thursday. “I am excited to be entering the 2024 WNBA Draft.”

The West Des Moines, Iowa native who played high school basketball at Dowling Catholic, is currently a fourth-year senior. If she wanted to, she could have returned for a fifth year due to the NCAA’s COVID-19 eligibility rules.

“It is impossible to fully express my gratitude to everyone who has supported me during my time at Iowa – my teammates, who made the last four years the best; my coaches, trainers, and staff who always let me be me; Hawkeye fans who filled Carver every night; and everyone who came out to support us across the country, especially the young kids,” the post continues.

“Most importantly, none of this would have been possible without my family and friends who have been by my side through it all. Because of all of you, my dreams came true.”

On Wednesday night, Clark passed Lynette Woodard to become the all-time leading scorer in major college women’s basketball history. She previously passed Kelsey Plum for No. 1 on the all-time NCAA women’s basketball scoring charts.

Clark is averaging 32.2, 8.7 assists and 7.4 rebounds per game this season.

The No. 6 Hawkeyes are 25-4 on the year and 14-3 in Big Ten play. Their next game is Sunday against No. 2 Ohio State.

The Indiana Fever hold the No. 1 overall pick for the April 15 draft, which has been moved to a larger venue to accommodate more fans. If drafted by Indiana, Clark would be teammates with former South Carolina forward Aliyah Boston

The two faced each other in last year’s Final Four, with Iowa prevailing 77-73 over the previously unbeaten Gamecocks.

This is a breaking news story and will be updated.
