The Colorado State Patrol said a semi-truck went off the edge of the road and dumped its load of pipe and angle iron on top of five other vehicles.
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — A portion of U.S. Highway 285 near Conifer in Jefferson County is closed after a fatal crash involving a semi, the Colorado State Patrol said.
The highway is closed in both directions between Parker Avenue and Blackfoot Road, south of Aspen Park.
CSP said the crash happened around 5 p.m. A semi-truck was southbound on Highway 285 when it went off the edge of the road, rolled onto its side, and dumped its load of pipe and angle iron on top of five other vehicles.
A person who was in one of those vehicles died on the scene, troopers said.
No other injuries were reported.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said diesel fuel spilled after the crash, and hazmat crews are on the scene.
The highway is expected to be closed until late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning, CSP said.
CSP recommends drivers use South Elk Creek Road to South Foxton Road as a detour.
