Eastbound Interstate 76 from Sterling to Nebraska and all lanes of Highway 34 from Brush to Nebraska are closed, CSP said.
STERLING, Colo. — Heavy snows have forced the closure of two major roadways in northeast Colorado.
Colorado State Patrol (CSP) said the eastbound lanes of Interstate 76 were closed from Sterling to the Nebraska state line. The closure was put in place at about 2 p.m. on Thursday. Multiple crashes involving semi trucks were blocking lanes, CSP said.
All of U.S. Highway 34 was closed from Brush in Morgan County to the Nebraska state line. CSP said multiple vehicles had slid off the road near the Washington and Yuma county lines. Yuma County emergency dispatchers reported four inches of snow had fallen as of 12:30 p.m.
The National Weather Service (NWS) had received reports at 11 a.m. that more than 9 inches of snow had fallen just southwest of the town of Fleming in Logan County.
The counties of Sedgwick, Phillips, Logan, Yuma and Washington have been under a Winter Storm Warning since Thursday morning. The warning goes through 11 a.m. Friday.
In a bulletin from the NWS that came out at 1:30 p.m., forecasters said the area could get an additional 5 inches of snow.
