The Arenibas family is used to hearing noise from Interstate 25, but this was not something they had heard before.
NORTHGLENN, Colo. — The Arenibas family was having lunch at their Northglenn home when a driver crashed through their fence on Christmas Day.
After the crash Monday at Interstate 25 and East 104th Avenue, the truck slid down a hill and rolled into a neighbor’s yard.
“We used to hear noises you know from the highway,” Martin Arenibas said, but this one was different. “We hear a big, strong noise.”
The wheels carved tire marks into the ground, and the truck shattered all across the lawn. The driver’s condition was unclear.
Arenibas said his priority was helping the driver.
“I tried to open the doors to see if she’s OK,” he said.
That’s what Arenibas said he always does now.
“Every time accidents happen, I run to see if I help,” he said.

A crash three years ago changed his life, when his vehicle hit black ice and rolled. His 9-year-old daughter and his wife weren’t wearing seat belts and flew out of the vehicle.
“My daughter died in my arms,” Arenibas said. “Made me feel broke, my heart, my feelings.”
On Tuesday, standing near what used to be a vehicle, Arenibas said he can’t help but think about his daughter.
“I was a big daddy for her when she’s always proud of me,” he said. “And I believe it, she see me do kind things like that, I think she’s proud.”
On a day of giving, he helped the only way he could.
“Damage like this, you can fix it, but lose life, not,” he said.
