A shelter-in-place alert was issued after the shooting Sunday in the area of 80th Avenue and Conifer Road.
ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. — A deputy responding to a disturbance in a neighborhood Sunday evening shot and injured an armed man who was involved, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office said.
Sheriff’s office spokesperson Adam Sherman said just before 4:50 p.m., someone in the area of 80th Avenue and Conifer Road called 911 and told dispatch that a neighbor had shot at another neighbor.
When deputies went to investigate, one of the people involved in the disturbance was armed, the sheriff’s office said. Investigators are still working to determine exactly what happened next, but one deputy shot the armed man, Sherman said.
The man was taken to the hospital. It’s unclear how badly he was injured.
Sherman said no one was injured in the shooting that prompted the law enforcement response.
Just after 5 p.m., the sheriff’s office sent out an emergency alert asking people within a few blocks of the shooting scene to shelter in place. The alert ended up going out to a larger area than intended, the sheriff’s office said.

The emergency alert, which was sent around 5:04 p.m. Sunday, read “POLICE ACTIVITY IN AREA- PLEASE SHELTER IN PLACE UNTIL ADDITIONAL INFORMATION IS RECEIVED.”
People across Denver and Arvada reported that they received the alert. It’s unclear why the alert went to such a wide area, but Sherman said it was only intended for residents within a few blocks of 80th and Conifer.
The shelter-in-place order has been lifted, Sherman said, but investigators are still working in the area.
The 17th Judicial District’s Critical Incident Response Team will investigate the shooting.
