In recent months, the seafood restaurant has shed more than 100 restaurants.
WASHINGTON — Red Lobster, the seafood-themed restaurant that captured hearts around the nation with its “all you can eat shrimp” promotion, has announced 23 more of its restaurants will close in the coming weeks as part of an ongoing bankruptcy filing.
The new closures were disclosed in a court filing on Aug. 22 in the United States Bankruptcy Court Middle District of Florida, Orlando Division. The company said it would reject the leases on the listed locations and “vacate the premises” by Aug. 31.
According to court records, Red Lobster currently operates more than 500 restaurants, primarily in the U.S. and Canada, and employs nearly 36,000 people. In recent months, the seafood restaurant has shed more than 100 restaurants.
The latest closures come amid a proposed sale to Fortress Investment Group, which owns chains like Logan’s Roadhouse and J. Alexander’s
A court filing in July revealed the company intends to accept an offer from Fortress as it received no other bids, Nation’s Restaurant News reported.
