Local patient count could reach up to 3,000 with added clinics.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — A Phoenix-based opioid treatment clinic that first came to the Denver area in 2022 is on the precipice of a major expansion.

Community Medical Services (CMS) held an open house in Englewood on Tuesday, marking the first of six new clinics that the treatment center will open in the region over the next 90 days.

The rapid expansion will increase the network’s total patient count in the area to between 2,500 and 3,000 people, said Jesus Godinez, Colorado regional director for CMS.

The onslaught of new clinics underscores rising demand from patients, health networks and community organizations that say more support is needed to help people suffering from substance use disorders, Godinez said.

Less than six months after opening its first clinic in Aurora, CMS said it was adding patients even faster than the organization expected. Like other groups, it had braced to be busy, given the post-pandemic surge in demand for behavioral health treatment across the country.

“The reality is, we will probably have to open up even more [clinics] as census grows at each location,” Godinez said of Colorado demand.
