Colorado Parks and Wildlife said the man was tubing with others Saturday morning on the Arkansas River.

FREMONT COUNTY, Colo. — A man died after becoming separated from his tubing partners on Saturday morning in Fremont County, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW).

The man, who was in his mid-30s, was with six others tubing on the Arkansas River a few miles upstream from their camping site. They were going to tube back to their campsite, which was on private land, CPW said in a news release.

During their trip, the people in the group became separated and the victim reportedly fell off of his tube, officials said.

A person fishing in the river saw the victim, who was not responsive, in the water and pulled him to shore east of the community of Portland. The angler and others began CPR. Resuscitation efforts were not successful, and the man was declared dead, CPW said.

The victim was not wearing a personal floatation device, officials said.

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office is investigating, CPW said. The victim will be identified by the Fremont County Coroner’s Office at a later time.

CPW said Colorado is on pace to eclipse the record 42 water-related deaths that was set in 2022. Last year, there were 32 water related deaths.
