A “family disturbance” occurred Saturday morning in the 5600 block of South Biscay Court, the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office said.
AURORA, Colo. — A man is in custody and a woman is in the hospital with serious injuries after a “family disturbance” took place Saturday morning.
Just after 11 a.m. Saturday, the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office reported a “heavy police presence” on East Smoky Hill Road and said the stretch between South Biscay Circle and South Danube Street was closed. Approximately one hour later, the sheriff’s department said there had been a “family disturbance” in the 5600 block of South Biscay Court that was over.
A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said deputies were dispatched to a residence after a 911 welfare check call was made earlier that morning. When deputies arrived, they found a 53-year-old woman bleeding in front of the home — she was taken to a hospital with “very serious injuries,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said deputies found the woman’s son, a 29-year-old man, in the backyard of the home and tried to get him to surrender, but he refused. After calling in support from other agencies, the man surrendered “without incident” after about an hour and a half of negotiations, according to the spokesperson.
The man was taken into custody on suspicion of aggravated assault, which is a felony, and could possibly face additional charges, the sheriff’s office said.
No information was shared about the nature of the woman’s injuries or the disturbance itself.
