Song’s CV further includes spells with West Ham, Charlton, Bastia, Russians Rubin Kazan and Swiss club Sion.

He moved to the football backwater of Djibouti in 2020, winning multiple trophies with Arta/Solar 7.

Cameroon international Song announced his retirement from football last November.

But the 49-cap ace has now said leading Cameroon club Canon tried to sign him up late last year, only for a potential deal to break down over financial terms.

Based in capital city Yaounde, Canon are one of the leading lights of the west African country’s Elite One league

By coincidence their name loosely translates as The Gunners.

Douala-born Song revealed Canon’s bid in an interview with local broadcaster CRTV.

He said: “I had the opportunity to join Canon de Yaounde three months ago.
