GOLDEN, Colo. — Smoke was visible Tuesday afternoon from a brush fire that has burned about 10 acres in rugged terrain off Highway 6 in Jefferson County.
The fire is burning north of Highway 6 Tunnel 1, in Clear Creek Canyon north of Lookout Mountain just west of Golden. It appears the fire was caused by a lightning strike Tuesday afternoon, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Golden Fire Department said.
By Tuesday night, the fire had slowed significantly in shrubs and rock outcroppings, the sheriff’s office said. They said no structures are threatened.
