England have secret formula to stop players cramping

England have a remedy to get their players out of a pickle when cramping up.

Gareth Southgate’s squad are being given pickle juice to fight the fatigue frustration – as it is said to solve the issue 40 per cent faster than drinking water.

Full-back Kieran Trippier, 33, was given pickle juice when cramping up in the latter stages of Sunday’s 1-0 win over Serbia in Gelsenkirchen, as well as a high-carb drink referred to as a “fuel bomb”.

Pickle juice is regularly used in tennis and contains sodium, potassium and vinegar.

When consumed, a reflex in the mouth is sparked, sending a signal to stop muscles from cramping.

Gallas tips Portugal as team to beat

Former Chelsea star William Gallas has backed Portugal to go “very far” at the Euros.

Speaking to Prime Casino, he said: “When I look at all the teams, the team that looks really strong is Portugal.

“Portugal have a brilliant squad of players. When you look at the players, even the guys that are going to be on the bench, most of them play for the biggest clubs in Europe.

“They all have experience of playing in the biggest matches. Portugal have a great mix of players, and even the younger ones are experienced when it comes to playing in pressure games.

“Cristiano is still there. He still wants to win one more big competition before he’s going to retire. He still wants to show the world that he can compete on the biggest stages with the best players.

“He has a manager in Roberto Martinez that is on his side and seems to be able to bring the best out of him. I think Portugal will go very, very far in the competition. I think they can win it.”

England desperate for Luke Shaw return, says Cole

Carlton Cole has said urged Gareth Southgate to get Luke Shaw playing again as soon as he is able to.

Shaw’s selection was a gamble due to his fitness, and he is the only natural LB in the squad.

His absence was sorely felt against Serbia as England lacked any real thrust down the left, and Cole reckons Shaw’s inclusion can fix this.

Speaking to Gambling.com, he said: “We’ve seen him (Gareth Southgate) do that in the warm up games but I’m not a fan of it. Luke Shaw couldn’t come back any sooner for me…

“You saw some parts of the game and you think to yourself if we are playing against a better team, some of those defensive mistakes might get punished.

“Against Denmark I would personally go for Luke Shaw instead of Kieran Trippier, if Shaw is fit.

“I would have told Trippier before the tournament that I’m gonna need you for that first game but Shaw is going to be fit for the next few games and I need to give him some minutes in his natural position to give the team more balance.

However, I don’t think Southgate needs to chop and change the team too much, the left back position is the only one I think needs rejigging.”

Foden should keep spot against Denmark, says Cole

Former Premier League ace Carlton Cole has called on Gareth Southgate to keep faith with Phil Foden.

The Man City star was far from his best against Serbia, but Cole believes England will be better off not rocking the apple cart at this stage.

Speaking to Gambling.com, he said: “I wouldn’t chop and change the team too much as I wouldn’t want to upset the apple cart at this stage.

“It would be harsh to drop Foden after one game when he is trying to get going in the tournament, particularly after a winning start.

“I would give Foden another half vs Denmark to show what he can do and then you can bring on Anthony Gordon if his performance hasn’t improved.

“Gordon is a good player to bring on in the second half at some stage and change the game.

“Foden had a quiet first game and we need to see more from him going forward but if this doesn’t happen, Gordon has to be considered to take his place on the left.”
