DENVER — Denver Art Museum employees have voted to join a union, making it the first art museum in Colorado to do so.

The bargaining unit Denver Art Museum Workers United is now part of American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, State Council 18, according to a press release from the AFSCME. More than 200 DAM employees will be represented by the union.

The vote was 120 to 59, meaning 67% of eligible DAM employees voted to join the union, per the release. The election was held on Feb. 28 and 29.

“Our wall-to-wall union recognizes the importance of all of us in making the museum a place where art connects, inspires, and empowers,” Kit Bernal, a curatorial assistant, said in the release. “I am so honored to get to work with all of my incredible colleagues across the bargaining unit and the museum to build a better present and future for the DAM.”

A statement from the Denver Art Museum recognized the union.
