The high winds could cause property damage, power outages, blowing dust and hazardous travel conditions across the Front Range and Eastern Plains.
DENVER — A strong storm system will impact Colorado this weekend with gusty winds and high fire danger, along with rain, snow and colder temperatures in the western side of the state.
The Denver metro area could see winds of 60 to 70 mph on Saturday. Wind gusts could reach 90 to 100 mph in the foothills.
“In Colorado, we are used to windy days and wind storms,” the National Weather Service said on social media. “This weekend’s wind storm will not be like our typical wind storm.”
There are High Wind Warnings, High Wind Watches and Wind Advisories in effect across parts of Colorado, as well as a Winter Storm Watch issued for portions of Colorado’s mountains.
In the Denver area and on Colorado’s eastern plains, a High Wind Watch, a Red Flag Warning and a Fire Weather Watch are all in effect for the weekend. The High Wind Watch goes from 9 a.m. Saturday to noon Sunday.
The Red Flag Warnings issued across Colorado, including the Denver metro area, said conditions will be favorable for rapid fire spread. Everyone should avoid outdoor burning and any activity that may produce a spark and start a wildfire.

The strong winds could start Saturday morning and last through Saturday night, and then only gradually improve Sunday. The winds could cause property damage, scattered power outages, blowing dust and hazardous travel conditions.
Gusts could top 100 mph in some localized foothills areas when the front moves through Saturday morning.
The wind will ramp up through the day on Saturday, with gusts upwards of 70 mph west of I-25 and topping 50 mph in spots east of I-25, though the worst of the wind will be confined to the foothills.
This is a mountain wave event, meaning the wind will be worse the closer you get to the foothills. Highs in Denver will be in the 40s, but it won’t matter with the wind making it feel much worse all day and night.
The wind will probably peak late tonight and into early on Sunday morning.
Winter Weather Advisories are up for most of the mountains on Saturday, with up to 10 inches of snow possible in some favored areas. The snow ticks down tonight and into Sunday morning.
