Jackie Stalter, 78, has been around horses her entire life. Her daughter Jaime wanted to make sure she got one last visit with her favorite animal.
LITTLETON, Colo. — Ever since 78-year-old Jackie Stalter moved to AdventHealth Porter Hospice, her daughter Jaime knew something was missing: horses.
“They helped my mom through a lot of things, a lot of deaths in our family and things like that,” she said. “They were always my mom’s go-to to feel better.”
Horses were Stalter’s passion, so a hospice chaplain made a few calls. Praying Hands Ranch came through and brought a mustang named Salida to see her.
“If I could, I’d get on him,” Salter said. “I’d get on him, and I’d go.”
The gesture meant a lot to her family.
“I think it just really shows my family that there are kind people out there that don’t just care for themselves and like to see other people happy,” Jaime said.
A daughter’s wish for her mother and the generosity of others led to one last moment with an animal that has meant so much to Stalter.
“I’m excited to see any horse,” she said. “Any time I can touch a horse is a gift.”
