‘Special for them’

Arne Slot has recognised what a big night it is for the home side to face the multiple European champions.

He believes his players are ready to rise to that too.

He told TNT Sports: “This is a special occasion for Girona. It is always a special occasion for the team we face and it is nice to be in the position we are in in the Champions League.

“Our players are so experienced, they know what it means to play Champions League for this club. I assume they are ready for it, they have to be. The style of Girona is something we have to be aware of.”

Here they come

The players across the two games are in the tunnel and ready to head out very shortly.

Another big midweek of action begins in just a few minutes!

Away woes

Celtic have another unwanted record they’re hoping to overcome tonight.

They haven’t won an away Champions League game since September 2017.

That came away at Anderlecht and they surely couldn’t have wished for a better chance than what they’ve been presented with tonight.

Table look

Liverpool could move five points clear at the top of the new standings before the others play, which is a really strong place to be.

Celtic can also put themselves in the automatic shake-up with a victory here, moving up to sixth before the later games.

And it’s a massive, massive night for Real Madrid (24th) and PSG (25th) as they continue to stumble their way through the competition and are at risk of missing out on the top 24 altogether.

Now that would be a story…

Match odds

The bookmakers are expecting a couple of good away wins for the British sides in the early starts.

  • Girona – 5/1
  • Draw – 4/1
  • Liverpool – 4/9

Dinamo Zagreb vs Celtic

Back for more

Marko Pjaca leads the line for Dinamo Zagreb tonight against Celtic in one of the two early kick-offs.

Sensationally, it’s a decade ago since he scored a hat-trick against the Hoops in a 4-3 Europa League win.

That would later earn him a move to Juve but he’s back at his former club now.

Even more incredibly, it remains his ONLY professional hat-trick!

Speaking ahead of the game, he said: “That was maybe the most beautiful match in the whole of my career.

“I hope I don’t have to score three goals tomorrow – but I would be really, really happy if we won.

“I believe in myself although I didn’t get another hat-trick in the whole of my career.”
