Michael Lucky, 32, is being held in the Boulder County jail on $1 million cash-only bond.
BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. — A 32-year-old man may face murder charges for allegedly beating a 60-year-old man in his Boulder County home last week. The attack happened at a home off of Portico Lane, which is just outside the Longmont city limits, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) said.
Just after midnight on Dec. 19, deputies were called to the Portico Lane home for medical assistance. When first responders arrived, they found the victim suffering from blunt force trauma injuries, the sheriff’s office said.
Michael Lucky was identified as a potential suspect and an intensive search was initiated, the sheriff’s office said. Investigators said they believe Lucky targeted the victim.
Lucky’s vehicle was found on a neighboring street so deputies sent out an Everbridge alert to nearby residents asking them to shelter in place while they searched for him, according to the sheriff’s office.
As deputies were searching, Lucky turned himself in at sheriff’s office headquarters.
The victim was rushed to a hospital and then transferred to a trauma center via helicopter, the sheriff’s office said. He remained in the hospital before he passed away on Christmas Eve. His name has not yet been released by the Boulder County Coroner’s Office.
Lucky was initially booked into the Boulder County jail on suspicion of attempted murder and other charges. The sheriff’s office said they’re now working with the district attorney’s office to upgrade the attempted murder charge to murder since the victim died.
Lucky, according to the sheriff’s office, was out on bond for a case that involved the victim’s daughter when the attack happened. Court records show he was charged in a domestic violence case in November, and for violating a protection order and stalking in another case earlier this month.
Lucky’s being held in the jail under $1 million cash-only bond.
