Taylor made wrong call after demotion
Referee Anthony Taylor made the wrong decision giving Preston North End a penalty against Coventry City, the EFL confirms.
After being dropped from top-flight English football Taylor is set to return to officiate at the Chelsea v Manchester City game on Sunday.
On Saturday, Taylor refereed Preston North End’s 3-2 win over Coventry City.
This was the first time in four years he had officiated in the second tier and was involved in a controversial spot-kick decision.
The 45-year-old ruled that Kyle McFadzean had brought down Milutin Osmajic in the area, but replays showed the Sky Blues captain had made little contact.
After reviewing the officials’ decisions, the EFL has announced that the penalty should not have been given.
Taylor was forced to referee Championship football last weekend after giving Newcastle a controversial penalty in their 2-2 draw with Wolves.
The English official deemed Hwang Hee-chan to have fouled Fabian Schar but replays of the incident showed minimal contact.
But it has been announced he will make his comeback to the Premier League this weekend as Chelsea who sits 10th in the league host leaders City.
Arsenal prefer Vlahovic over Toney

Transfers.com claim Mikel Arteta is desperate to land the £100million-rated Juventus ace.
Arsenal do retain interest in Brentford’s Ivan Toney.
But he is also wanted by rivals Chelsea, who could outbid Arsenal in January.
Vlahovic has scored 27 goals in 72 games for the Serie A giants.
Arsenal rivals Tottenham suffer Maddison blow
Arsenal’s rivals Tottenham fear star man James Maddison could be sidelined for several months with concerns mounting that his injury is worse than first expected.
The ex-Leicester City attacker suffered the blow during Spurs’ 4-1 home defeat to Chelsea on Monday.
The 26-year-old was substituted in the first half after picking up a problem with his ankle.
Fears of the severity of the damage seemed to have been allayed when England boss Gareth Southgate named him in his latest squad when he announced it on Thursday.
However, Tottenham announced earlier that Maddison has withdrawn from Three Lions duty and will stay at the club to continue his recovery.
He has undergone a series of examinations this week to try and establish the extent of the damage on his ankle.
Now Sun Sport understands that there are growing concerns that Maddison is facing a lengthy spell out.
