Arteta doubles down
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta doubled down on his previous statement insisting he just gave a “very clear and honest assessment”.
It is my duty to stand in front of the cameras and give a very clear and honest assessment of what happens in the game.
This is what I did, reflect very openly how I felt the team played and how the game was conditioned by the decisions that were made.
My duty is to defend my players, club and people in the best possible way.
This is what I’m going to do time after time and I do it, not the way I feel, [but] with the evidence and being as clear as possible. I always do it. It’s the way I am and I have to defend my club.

Jesus return date
Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus’ representatives are targeting a return to fitness for the beginning of December, according to SunSport’s Jordan Davies.
Jesus has endured an injury-ravaged start to the season, missing the first three Premier League games with a knee issue.
After a brief return the striker hobbled off during the Gunners’ 2-1 Champions League win away at Sevilla with a hamstring injury.
The North Londoners’ manager Mikel Arteta has previously refused to put a timeline on the 26-year-old’s recovery, admitting he was “totally wrong” last time with the player back sooner than expected.
However, SunSport understands the Brazil international’s reps are eyeing a few more weeks on the sidelines before a full return next month after the November international break.
The ex-Manchester City star is currently taking part in rehab work away from the pitch at London Colney.
There is a sense that great care needs to be taken with the Brazilian heading into a busy festive period, and no risks will be taken.
How about that
PGMOL chief Howard Webb is set for a massive VAR grilling when he addresses the recent set of controversial decisions.
The weekend’s football action saw Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta brand the officiating a “disgrace” after his sides 1-0 defeat to Newcastle.
Webb will address the complaints in the coming days after another weekend of VAR controversy.
The former Premier League referee is due to appear on the latest episode of “Match Officials Mik’d Up” which is scheduled to be broadcast at the start of next week in the international break.
Anthony Gordon’s winner for the Magpies is expected to be given top billing.
No punishment for Arteta
Premier League and PGMOL chiefs will not respond to Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta’s Newcastle rant until next week.
Arteta slammed the “embarrassing” refereeing during the Gunners’ controversial 1-0 defeat as a “disgrace”.
While Arteta could be charged with misconduct if found to have made a “prolonged” or “unreasonable” complaint, it is more likely that he would be hit with a warning rather than a fine.
The North Londoners’ decision to make a public statement in support of the Spanish tactician on Sunday ruffled more feathers at both Prem headquarters and for PGMOL bosses.
Privately, it is understood to have been a feeling that Arsenal overreacted in a bid to show they had Arteta’s back.
Comment by SunSport’s Dave Kidd
“Newcastle vs Arsenal is really becoming a beautiful grudge match.
“And Saturday’s clash at St James’ Park was a spiteful old-school classic for the delectation of neutrals.
“I’m not sure whether I agreed with any of the major decisions reached by ref Stuart Attwell and VAR Andy Madley.
“But in a way, Attwell and Madley officiated the match brilliantly simply by keeping all 22 players on the pitch and allowing us to enjoy such a riveting spectacle.”
Ex-Gunner reveals terrible start
Former Arsenal youngster Chuba Akpom has opened up over his poor start to life at Ajax.
He said: “It’s been a catastrophe, personally and for the team.
“I haven’t felt settled for two months, it’s only this week that I’ve felt settled. I’ve been in a hotel by myself, I’ve not been playing and I feel like I’ve been alone here.
“I try to stay professional and keep working, but a new country, new environment, new team, in a hotel – it’s really a struggle.”
