The other driver faces multiple charges including DUI and driving without a license.

ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. — An Arapahoe County Sheriff’s deputy had to crawl out of his vehicle after he was hit by a suspected drunk driver while on his way to work.

According to a social media post from the sheriff’s office, the deputy was struck at 4:15 a.m. on Saturday in Centennial while headed to his shift at the Arapahoe County Detention Facility.

The sheriff’s office said the driver of a tan Honda Odyssey was headed east on East Smoky Hill Road and struck the deputy who was headed south on South Liverpool Street causing the deputy’s truck to roll onto its top.

Despite being injured, the deputy was able to crawl from his truck. He did not have serious injuries and was said to be doing “okay,” according to the sheriff’s office.

The other driver, a 27-year-old man, was arrested on several charges. They include:

  • Driving under the influence of alcohol
  • Careless driving causing injury
  • Driving without a valid driver’s license
  • No proof of insurance

The sheriff’s office ended its post by urging people not to drink and drive.
