The two companies came to a five-year agreement Friday night. The previous contract expired May 1.

DENVER — After weeks of negotiations, CommonSpirit and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield came to an agreement on a five-year deal to provide coverage to Colorado residents.

The new contract, which the companies agreed to Friday night, provides Anthem members who are covered by Anthem employer-based, Medicare Advantage and individual health plans in-network access to CommonSpirit Health providers and care sites through 2029.

“I’m proud that both organizations stayed at the negotiating table, working hard to reach an agreement to provide Coloradans’ access to affordable health care at CommonSpirit,” said Anthem Colorado President Matt Pickett. “Importantly, the long-term nature of our agreement ensures care provider network stability for our members and cost-predictability for Colorado employers for years to come.”

Both organizations have also agreed that any Anthem members who received care at CommonSpirit facilities since May 1 will be covered at in-network benefit levels.

“Our patients are at the heart of all we do, and through our partnership with Anthem, we will ensure our patients continue to receive compassionate care from the doctors and nurses they know and trust,” said Andrew Gaasch, executive vice president and chief financial officer of the CommonSpirit mountain region. “Our goal has always been to ensure we can meet the needs of our patients while continuing to provide essential services to our communities today and into the future.”

The previous contract expired on May 1, leaving most CommonSpirit facilities as out-of-network for Anthem members.
