The U.S. Forest Service said the Bear Creek Fire is about three acres in size and was caused by lightning.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. — Lightning caused the Bear Creek Fire burning in Douglas County, the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) said Sunday afternoon.

The Bear Creek Fire is 14 miles northwest of Castle Rock near Platte Canyon Reservoir, according to the USFS.

The fire is about three acres in size as of 3 p.m., the USFS reports.

A USFS hand-crew and two helicopters are working to put out the flames. One helicopter is from Douglas County and the other is a USFS Monument helicopter, an update on the department’s website says. The fire is burning duff, which is where a fire can burn underneath the surface of the ground, and trees, according to the USFS.
