Heavy rainstorms and even severe weather will also be possible in Colorado’s high country which will increase stream flows.

DENVER — After a busy Sunday for storms on the south and east sides of the Denver area and the San Luis Valley, Colorado will have another busy Monday for thunderstorms.

Slow-moving storms with flash flooding and hail are the main concerns Monday in Colorado. The threat for severe thunderstorms cover the entire Denver metro area and much of eastern Colorado and parts of the mountains.

Low-level moisture is in place and that will help fuel Monday’s stronger showers and storms.

Severe storms are expected to first develop just after noon in the high country and foothills before pushing south into the Interstate 25 corridor and the eastern Colorado plains. The main time window for storms will fall between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.

As the storms move south, they are likely intensify as they run into more low-level moisture. The storms won’t be moving fast, which will help create the potential for more flooding and localized larger hail. The threat should diminish by 6 p.m. or 7 p.m.

Highs in the Denver area will be in the mid-80s on Monday, if we can get a bit of morning sunshine.

Colorado will get a bit more sun Tuesday after skies clear out Monday night, and that will usher in some drier air from the north and west. That will shift the threat for storms more into southern Colorado for Tuesday, and most of northeast Colorado probably stays dry.

The highest risk for a storm on Tuesday will be on the Palmer Divide and points south of Denver.

Then, high pressure builds in, and that’ll push temperatures into the low 90s for Wednesday and the mid-90s for Thursday. If we can keep skies clear on Thursday, there’s a chance Denver could make a run at 100°.
