The driver of the vehicle was cited for careless driving, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
BENT COUNTY, Colo. — A train smashed into a vehicle along Highway 50 in Bent County after the driver crashed and their vehicle came to rest on the train tracks.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, the crash happened around 7 a.m. Thursday along Highway 50 near milepost 393. That’s in Bent County near Las Animas.
Investigators with CSP believe the driver of the vehicle may have fallen asleep and driven off the roadway into a pole. The vehicle, which was disabled as a result of the crash, came to rest on the train tracks. The driver exited the vehicle before a train collided with it, CSP said.
The driver had minor injuries from the initial crash, but no injuries were reported from the collision between the train and the car. The driver was cited for careless driving.
There were road closures in the area, but all roads have since reopened. The train tracks are also open, according to CSP.
