Large hail and heavy rain caused flooding and road closures late Tuesday night.

GREELEY, Colo. — The City of Greeley is asking residents to “stay clear” of the downtown area as crews work to clean up from a storm that brought large hail and heavy rain which flooded streets and prompted road closures.

Around 6:30 Wednesday morning, the city said on social media, that 16th Street was closed between US 85 and 7th Avenue and 6th Avenue between 16th Street and 13th Street.

Other downtown roads are open and clear, however, SKY9 was over many neighborhoods which showed numerous flooded intersections.

A temporary shelter at the Greeley Family FunPlex had been opened Tuesday night for anyone requiring shelter, according to a post from the city on the social platform X.

Property owners who experienced damage from the storm are encouraged to report that damage to the Weld County government by clicking here. The information will go directly to the Weld County Office of Emergency Management for review and tracking.

The form should not be used for insurance purposes or for anyone needing immediate assistance.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, golf ball size hail had been reported in Johnstown, Colorado. That is a hail stone measuring 1.75 inches in diameter.
