United thank Martial

Manchester United have officially announced the exit of Anthony Martial with a statement thanking the Frenchman for his time at the club.

It read: “It’s been a pleasure Anthony Martial. Wishing you every success for the future — once a Red, always a Red

“Everybody at United thanks Anthony for his service and wishes him well for the future.”

Greenwood hints at Getafe stay

Mason Greenwood has hinted that he may potentially stay at Getafe after winning the club’s Player of the Season award.

The Manchester United loanee has said he is “comfortable” with Getafe.

Speaking on winning the award, he said: “It feels amazing to receive this kind of award.

“I wouldn’t be able to get this achievement if it wasn’t for my teammates and the coaching staff.

“Everybody has done well with helping me to get this award and I want to say thank you to them.

“I think we’ve done very well. We could have got some extra points here and there to try and push into European places but it hasn’t been possible.

“I feel very happy and comfortable here, it’s been an amazing experience.”

Southgate wanted ‘more than anyone’

Manchester United chiefs have reportedly identified Gareth Southgate as their number one target to replace Erik ten Hag.

Respected journalist Miguel Delaney told Sky Sports that the Ineos bigwigs at Old Trafford wanted Southgate “more than anyone else”, but have faced hurdles in getting it sorted with the Euros this summer.

Southgate is obviously heading up England’s campaign in Germany this summer and is said to have his full attention on the Three Lions for the time being.

Delaney said: “I mean, from what I’ve repeatedly heard, the figure they wanted more than anyone else is Southgate, or certainly some of the key figures in INEOS want Southgate, but that’s obviously very difficult this summer.”

Wazza’s worst

Wayne Rooney has  has revealed being sent off at the 2006 World Cup was his lowest moment in football.

The England legend, 38, was shown a straight red card for stamping on Portugal’s Ricardo Carvalho during a quarter-final clash in Germany 18 years ago.

Speaking on The Overlap, brought to you by Sky Bet, he admitted that the moment he was given his marching orders was the worst point in his career.

The red card in the World Cup was my lowest moment in football.

That was a difficult one because I remember going in the dressing room and thinking, if we go through, I’m suspended for the semi-final and final if we get there. If we don’t, it’s your fault.

It was horrible.

Greenwood wins Getafe award

Mason Greenwood has been named as Getafe’s Player of the Season.

The Manchester United loanee still has question marks over his future despite impressing while away in La Liga.

Greenwood managed 10 goals and six assists in his 36 appearances across all competitions for Getafe this season.

United face tough competition

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Rennes wonderkid Desire Doue in recent weeks.

But it looks like the Red Devils can expect plenty of competition for the attacking midfielder’s signature.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed there is likely to be a number of top clubs interested in the starlet.

Speaking in his Daily Briefing, he said: “Staying with United, we’ve seen them linked, along with many other clubs, with Rennes wonderkid Desire Doue, who is doing fantastic with his performances in Ligue 1.

“Honestly, though, I could mention six or seven clubs interested in Doue – interest is strong, but it’s really early.

“So we have to be patient on this one. For sure, interest is there from several countries as he’s considered a top, top talent.”

Arsenal are also said to be interested in the youngster.
