Denver’s season is over after a second-half collapse that led to Minnesota taking the second-round playoff series.
DENVER — Talk about a bad time for a collapse.
The Denver Nuggets blew a 20-point, second-half lead in Sunday’s decisive Game 7 against the Minnesota Timberwolves, ending their season in a 98-90 loss in front of their stunned home crowd.
Denver’s hopes of going back-to-back as NBA champions were crushed as the Nuggets bow out of the 2024 playoffs in the second round.
After a dominant first half, the Nuggets went into halftime with a 53-38 lead. That lead quickly disappeared in the third quarter in which the Timberwolves outscored the Nuggets 28-14 to make it a 1-point game going into the fourth quarter.
Minnesota took the lead early in the fourth quarter and held it until the final buzzer sounded on Denver’s season.
The Timberwolves took a 2-0 series lead after stealing both Games 1 and 2 on the road at Ball Arena. The Nuggets responded by claiming the next three games to take its first series lead, before a blowout in Game 6 set up a winner-take-all matchup on Sunday night.
Minnesota advances to faces the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference Finals.
