The proposed change would increase summer fees at four campgrounds from $35 to $45 per night, the park said.

ESTES PARK, Colo — Rocky Mountain National Park is proposing a $10 increase in summer camping fees at four campgrounds starting next year.

The park is proposing a $10 increase to overnight fees at four reservation campgrounds — Moraine Park, Glacier Basin, Aspenglen and Timber Creek. This proposed change would increase summer fees from $35 to $45 per night, the park said.

The park is also proposing a $10 increase for the new electrical sites that are being constructed at the Moraine Park Campground. The proposed fee for those 49 electrical sites is $55 per night.

The park said they are not proposing any fee changes to group sites, the first-come first-served Longs Peak Campground, or winter rates at any campgrounds.

“These proposed campground fee increases are based on comparable fees for similar services in nearby campgrounds,” the park said in a news release. “The proposed fee increases are necessary for Rocky Mountain National Park to improve and maintain high-quality visitor services. While basic park operations are funded by direct appropriations from Congress, the recreation use fees collected by the park are used to support new projects and the ongoing maintenance of park facilities that directly enhance the visitor experience.”

The park said some of the projects funded through entrance station and campground fees include hazard tree mitigation, campground improvements, hiking trail repairs and improvements and bear management.

The park is accepting comments on the proposed changes. Comments can be submitted online at parkplanning.nps.gov or by mail. Comments will be accepted through May 23.
