A former 4th-round draft pick out of Auburn, Blackson joins Malcolm Roach as Broncos’ defensive line newcomers.
ENGLEWOOD, Colo — One way to improve the offense is stop the time-chewing run game on defense.
The Broncos continued to fortify their defensive line Monday by reaching agreement with veteran defensive tackle Angelo Blackson on a one-year contract, a source told 9NEWS.
The 6-foot-4, 305–pound Blackson will be playing for his sixth NFL team as he is about to begin his 10th season. Blackson was the Tennessee Titans’ fourth-round draft pick out of Auburn in 2015. He has also played for Houston, Arizona — where his defensive coordinator was current Broncos’ DC Vance Joseph — Chicago and Jacksonville.
Blackson, 31, has played in 128 games with 42 starts.

He joins former New Orleans’ Saint Malcolm Roach along the Broncos revised defensive line. The Broncos allowed defensive linemen Jonathan Harris to become a free agent and sign with the Miami Dolphins. Veteran nose tackle Mike Purcell is also a free agent.
The Broncos ranked No. 30 in run defense last year — perhaps one reason why the Denver offense ranked No. 26 in total offense. To wit: Can’t move the ball when the offense is on the sidelines.
The Broncos’ defensive line now includes Zach Allen, D.J. Jones, Matt Henningsen, Jordan Jackson, Rashard Lawrence, Roach and Blackson.
