A U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics report shows there will be about 193,000 nurse openings every year through 2032.
DENVER — A U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics report shines a light on the ongoing need for nurses.
It takes a look at how the need will grow through the year 2032. The report shows for the next decade or so, there are projected to be 193,000 job openings for registered nurses every year.
That’s a 6% growth rate, which is faster than average. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says the average growth rate for jobs is 3%. A lot of those openings are expected to be from people leaving for different jobs or retiring.
Denver Health is working on a solution for those who might consider retiring, like virtual nursing.
“Someone that still has the capabilities mentally, they’re experienced in practice but they can’t do it physically, but they can do it from a virtual place, so we are in the process of increasing,” said Kathy Boyle, the chief nursing officer for Denver Health.
Denver Health has a few initiatives in place to recruit and retain nurses. The Emergency Department Nurse Academy is welcoming more emergency department nurses than before, the offer mentoring programs, and a graduate nurse residency program to help students get jobs.
