COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — The Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge plans to do a prescribed burn Monday morning – the first of several over the next four weeks.
The burn on Monday will happen between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. in the southwest portion of the refuge, near the refuge visitor center and Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
Smoke will be visible for several miles, and people nearby will be able to smell smoke, according to the refuge. There’s no need to call 911.
This is the first of several planned prescribed burns. The refuge plans to burn 2,305 acres over four weeks.
The purpose of the fires is to revitalize grassland vegetation, reduce waste, control weeds and improve habitat for wildlife.
