The Raiders defeated the defending champion Eagles 3-1 to capture the Class 5A state title at Magness Arena.
DENVER — It came down to the best of the best.
No. 1 Regis Jesuit clashed with No. 2 and defending champion Valor Christian in the Class 5A hockey state title game on Tuesday night.
In the end, it was the Raiders who hoisted the championship trophy at DU’s Magness Arena with a 3-1 victory over the Eagles. It is the seventh title in program history for Regis Jesuit and first since 2019.
“This group in particular over the years has done a good job re-establishing the hockey culture at Regis Jesuit,” head coach Terry Ott said.
After a scoreless first period, Regis Jesuit broke through with a goal from Reece Peterson. Parker Brinner extended the lead with less than a minute left with an empty-netter, followed by Ian Beck in the final second. Brock Benson scored Valor Christian’s lone goal.
Regis Jesuit went 17-2-2 overall in route to the championship, which included ending on a seven-game winning streak. Valor Christian went 17-3-1 as runner-up.
