MANCHESTER UNITED legend John O’Shea has been named as interim manager of the Republic of Ireland.

The 42-year-old will take charge of his country until April, when the FAI will name a permanent successor to Stephen Kenny will be announced in April.

O’Shea had previously served on Kenny’s coaching staff prior to his axing last November.

The former United defender will take charge of the March friendlies against Belgium and Switzerland.

The star, who won 118 caps for Ireland, will be assisted by Paddy McCarthy in his new role.
