Dixie Chicks founding member Laura Lynch killed in Texas crash

The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed that the Fort Worth resident was killed in a head-on collision on U.S. 62 just west of Cornudas.

TEXAS, USA — Founding member of The Chicks Laura Lynch died at 65, the band confirmed in an Instagram post.

“Laura was a bright light…her infectious energy and humor gave a spark to the early days of our band,” The Chicks’ post read. “Laura had a gift for design, a love of all things Texas and was instrumental in the early success of the band.”

TMZ, citing the Texas Department of Public Safety, was first to report that Lynch died in a car crash Friday.

The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed to WFAA that the Fort Worth resident was killed in a head-on collision on U.S. 62 just west of Cornudas.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says the investigation into the collision is ongoing. 

The Dixie Chicks, now The Chicks, was formed in Dallas in the late 1980s by sisters Martie Maguire and Emily Strayer with Lynch and Robin Lynn Macy as a bluegrass band.
