Three people were taken to the hospital after the crash.
DENVER — Three people were injured when a semi-truck crashed through a guardrail onto a street in a Denver neighborhood Friday.
Police said the crash happened around 12:40 p.m., they were responding to a rolled-over semi-truck near Interstate 70 and Clay Street in the Sunnyside neighborhood.
The semi-truck crashed within a few feet from Alondra Flores’ home, right outside her son’s bedroom.
“I just heard a loud, like an explosion—really, really loud,” said Flores, who had moved into the house with her family earlier this year. “I don’t know, I felt like the house shook a little, and then I told [my husband], ‘Hold on, I think someone just crashed.’”
Flores had been on the phone with her husband when the crash happened. When she ran outside, she found the semi-truck in her front yard and people crying nearby.
Three people were taken to the hospital from the semi-truck and an SUV that was also involved. Flores recalled watching someone pull the truck driver out from the passenger side.

“My husband is also a truck driver, and so… this was hard,” she said through tears. “The person here probably has a family at home, and now his life probably changed forever.”
Several people told Flores that an electrical pole on her property stopped the semi-truck from barreling into her home.
“One of the firefighters who was here said to me, ‘Count your blessings. If that pole wasn’t there, that would’ve gone right into your home,’” Flores said.
She also said she is thankful both her children were at school during the crash.
Denver police are investigating the cause of the crash.
The Colorado Department of Transportation said the truck crashed through both a guardrail and wooden fencing. The department said that sound walls are scheduled to be installed along that stretch of the highway next year. When the new sound wall is installed, CDOT said a new guardrail will also be built.
