A Denver jury found Anthony Gutierrez guilty of stabbing and killing Tyler Fritsch in 2022.

DENVER — A man was found guilty Tuesday by a jury for fatally stabbing a man in 2022.

Anthony Gutierrez, 48, was found guilty of:

  • Reckless manslaughter
  • Destroying or tampering physical evidence
  • Felony menacing with a weapon

At around 2 p.m. on July 30, 2022, the Denver Police Department said officers responded to a scene in the 4800 block of North Washington Street.

They found 30-year-old Tyler Fritsch in the street with a stab wound to the left side of his body, police said. He was taken to the hospital where he died due to the injury.

A witness told investigators that Fritsch was being chased around by another man, who was later identified as Gutierrez, before the witness saw him collapse, according to the probable cause statement. The witness also reported that Gutierrez chased the victim and said something similar to “That’s what you get for stealing from me.”

Officers interviewed another witness at the scene who reported the suspect was Gutierrez, who was experiencing homelessness at the time. That witness said Gutierrez was known to camp around the intersection of 53rd Avenue and Franklin Street in Denver.

Investigators also examined video surveillance taken from the area that showed the victim being chased by Gutierrez, the document says.

Gutierrez’s sentencing will be Jan. 10.
