STEVE HOLLAND is eyeing a No 1 job — even if Gareth Southgate gets back into work.

Holland, 54, was Southgate’s sidekick with England for almost eight years before the boss left the post after Euro 2024.

But as we revealed when he was still with the Three Lions, Holland has his sights set on trying his luck as a manager in his own right.

Now the former Chelsea deputy is on the market and being mentioned for jobs at home and abroad despite Southgate being strongly linked with a return of his own.

That has left Southgate searching for potential partners — but top-class coaches who are available are hard to find.

And if Manchester United come for Southgate, he would have to find a coach to work with in a hurry.

Southgate relied heavily on Holland in his Three Lions role so he knows he needs a replacement with similar knowledge and experience.

Holland could take a job in the Championship — but he may attract a struggling Premier League club who might want a change.

Southampton boss Russell Martin is coming under pressure after picking up just one point from seven Premier League games.

The Saints head coach earned promotion last season but has struggled to turn his possession-based style into results in the top flight.
