A 31-year-old man was convicted of attempted murder last week for brutally stabbing Officer Allan Fischer.
WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. — Wheat Ridge Officer Allan Fischer said he feels free after the man who brutally stabbed him 12 times more than two years ago was found guilty for the attack.
“It was kind of eating me up a little bit and occupying really almost every day of my life,” Fischer said. “But now that that’s behind me, I just feel like I’m free now.”
“I feel like I can move on,” he said.
On April 13, 2022, Fischer and another officer responded to a report of a U-Haul that had crashed into a fence. The driver refused to get out of the truck. When Fischer tried to get him out of the vehicle, the driver attacked him.
He was stabbed 12 times in the neck, chest and back.
Last week, a jury convicted Andre Jones, 31, of attempted murder after a six-day trial in which body camera footage of the attack was shown for the first time.
Fischer said he hadn’t seen the video of his attack before the trial and, after seeing it, feels lucky to be alive.
“Having to watch the videos I had to watch, I think had more of a positive effect on me in the long run because I think I may have been suppressing certain thoughts and stuff from the incident,” Fischer said. “Like almost dying, I had heard that, but I never really felt that, and seeing the videos, I think I kind of realized I’m luckier than I even thought to be here now.”
Fischer now works in Wheat Ridge Police records department and won’t be allowed to return to patrol due injuries he suffered in the attack.
He said despite that, he’s never been happier and is figuring out how to move on.
Jones’ sentencing is set for early October, and Fischer said he looks forward to ending this chapter.
“I’ve been waiting 2.5 years to get to speak,” he said. “So, I’m looking forward to it.”
