Smoke from the Alexander Mountain Fire in Larimer County and fires in California will push into the Front Range.
COLORADO, USA — Wildfire smoke from the several fires burning in Colorado and on the West Coast will turn skies smoky both Wednesday and Thursday.
An overnight cold front is switching our wind direction to more of a northerly flow. That shift will push in smoke from the Alexander Mountain Fire that’s burned more than 5,000 acres west of Loveland in Larimer County. It’s also going to lead to smoke from fires in California moving in as well.
That smoke will make visibility tough and air quality poor. An Air Quality Alert is up for the entire Front Range until at least 4 p.m. Wednesday. (It’ll almost definitely be extended tonight and tomorrow.)
Wednesday and Thursday are bad days for spending a long time outdoors, and if you do so, consider wearing a mask to limit your smoke intake. You can check real-time air quality here.
Air quality should start to improve by Friday as we usher in some subtropical moisture and switch our wind direction.
