The Colorado governor joined a chorus of other high-profile Democrats endorsing current Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential nominee.
COLORADO, USA — In answer to whether he’d consider being Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate, Colorado Governor Jared Polis is cracking jokes – and saying yes.
“Obviously if somebody asked, I’d take a serious look at it, but my phone hasn’t rung yet,” Polis answered.
Harris has less than a month to find a potential running mate before the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, and top Democrats are lining up to make their pitch or say they’re not interested.
“Look, if they do the polling and it turns out they need a 49-year-old, balding, gay Jew from Boulder, Colorado, they got my number,” Polis said.
Polis, along with other Democratic governors across the nation and the entire Colorado Democratic congressional delegation, took to social media to endorse Harris’ campaign Sunday.
The governor’s endorsement came shortly after Biden announced his decision to drop out of the race. Polis had previously voiced concerns about Biden’s campaign but never publicly called for him to drop out of the race.
In a statement Sunday, Polis said Biden made “the right decision” to end his campaign.
Harris is not yet the official Democratic nominee. First, she needs to win the support of enough delegates ahead of August’s Democratic National Convention.
